Women in Design Kansas City
Women in Design Kansas City is a community of women involved in architecture and the design professions who have come together for mentorship, support, and advocacy for women in design. We provide opportunities for working with our community to educate, enhance, explore and celebrate the historic and present contributions of women in our professions through community outreach, mentorship, programs and research.
Women in Design – Kansas City was established in April 2005 with the support of AIA Kansas City. It began with a meeting of 25 women who created an organization that has grown to over 500 members. Women in Design was initiated as an attempt to reach out to established professionals in the community, to learn from their success, and to advance the work women are doing. WiD-KC has become a place for women in various design professions to meet others in their fields and to learn about ourselves through each other.
This is WiD-KC's first year as a Project Change team! See our website to learn more about our first challenge....http://www.widkc.org/project-change/

Valentine's Day Pledge to Kansas City
Challenge 1: Create Change without $Change$
Give LOVE to your community this Valentine’s Day by pledging your time to a local non-profit
Make a difference within your community without making a cash donation. Between February 1-14 (due Valentine’s day), WiD-KC would like you to participate in the Change without $Change$ challenge by volunteering and asking your company to participate as well. This is an important endeavor we feel will benefit not only our community but your company.
How Your Company Can Participate
Each company will have different capabilities, whether it is availability of staff or time. If a company is financially capable of donating paid employee hours (perhaps ½ day) it can be beneficial to plan this as a group effort. If this is not an option, organize “outside of work time” together to volunteer.
The feeling of making a change in your community can only be obtained by participating. Join us in getting it done. Win or lose, our teams’ cumulative efforts make life much better for numerous charities.
Some ideas and information on Non-Profit Organizations in your area can be found on the Project Change website at: http://www.projectchange-kc.org/charities

This event will consist of a one hour shift with approximately 20-25 artists drawing simultaneously. The audience will have the rare opportunity to watch art come to life and purchase completed drawings in a silent auction format. Art will be drawn towards the theme of EMPOWERMENT. There will also be a concurrent raffle with prizes from local businesses.

All proceeds from the event will benefit Synergy Services, a non-profit violence prevention program in Kansas City.
Earth Day - Teaching Youth about sustainability
On Earth Day, several members of WiDKC will be teaching a lesson about sustainability and green home design at ME Pearson Elementary. We have prepared an interactive presentation and activity for 4 classes of fifth grade students to complete. Our hope, is that they begin to think of green design as something they can actually be a part of - sustainability is not only about solar panels and recycling! We are trying to demonstrate simple ways that they can contribute to their sustainable home, such as planting an organic veggie garden, using rainbarrels to collect water, teaching about the benefits of solar angles and window placement, cross ventilation and more!
