Westport Catalyst Project
2009
Westport Catalyst Project is a collaboration between Gould Evans and National Wallcovering that is striving to make an impact in our Westport Neighborhood.
Firms Involved:
Gould Evans, National Wallcovering
Warm & Fuzzy Drive
Benefiting: Revolution Church
For our first event, the Westport Catalyst Project worked with Revolution Church and Kelly’s Westport Inn to organize a “Warm & Fuzzy Drive.” The team collected new and gently used warm items including blankets, coats, gloves, scarves, and sweaters at Kelly’s for distribution through Revolution Church. Revolution Church is in the heart of Westport and is dedicated to community involvement. The items donated to Revolution will either be given directly to the homeless or will be sold in the Retro Revolution thrift store to fund and maintain the services of Neighbor to Neighbor. Neighbor to Neighbor helps the homeless or deeply impoverished daily with meals, clothing, health care, job placement, and more. The event was a great success and more than 30 people gathered at Kelly’s to bring an overwhelming heap of donations and show their support of the Westport Catalyst Project.
Benefiting:
Feed the Hungry
Benefiting: Covenant Chapel
The Westport Catalyst Project collected ready to eat items in March to feed the hungry in the downtown and Westport areas. Collected food will be given to the hungry through Community Outreach Programs at Covenant Chapel. There is a growing need in our community to assist others in these hard economic times and by gathering food for box lunches we will provide a meal and hope for those in need.
Benefiting:
A.T. Challenge
Benefiting: Greater Kansas City Climate Protection Partnership & Mother Earth
As a commitment to the Greater Kansas City Climate Protection Partnership and Project Change, Gould Evans challenged itself to reduce it’s transportation footprint for the week of April 20-24th by 50%. The Alternative Transportation Challenge was just that- find an alternative way to get to and from work. People walked, scooted, biked, carpooled, and rode the bus. We encouraged staying local for lunch by holding brown-bag lunch and learns on ways to improve our sustainable design practices and reduce carbon emissions. Meetings were planned to take advantage of carpools within our office and with our consultants. Gould Evans succeeded in reducing our overall transportation footprint by 34%!
In just one week we saved 1,226 miles, 58 gallons of fuel AND $663!
You can track your own reduction in the transportation footprint through carpooling at the Carpool Connection
