Team GoGo - St. Louis
Active Challenge Seasons: 2011
We might not be the speediest to start, but Team GoGo (Good Old Girl's Organization) is ready to take off! For our first challenge, we have decided to bring some cheer to a retirement home. We will bring our big hearts, and provide Valentine's Day cheer to a floor in a nursing home. Details are still being worked out. Stay tuned for more info!

Victory for Valentine's Day, 2011!
For our first Project, Team GoGo decided to bring some cheer to a skilled nursing facility. It seems many of us have loved ones in these types of care centers, and it is obvious that many do not get regular visitors. We wanted to make certain EVERYONE was remembered on Valentine's Day. Team GoGo knew we had enough "heart" to go around.....All we had to do was document it!
So, we broke into groups, grabbed materials that could be recycled: colorful paper, Christmas cards, ribbons, etc, and went to work. A church youth group jumped in to help also. Families worked on their cards together. Moms and kids, Grandmoms and grandkids. Sourcing for red construction paper became an issue in the Greater St Louis area! All together, we made over 230 cards to be delivered. (We figure that is 230 individual smiles!) As you can see from "Aunt Stella", the residents enjoyed the extra attention!

Team Go Go have Seen a Need.....and are Filling a Need at Shalom House Emergency Shelter, by filling food shelves!
Our Project Change Challenge for March is to participate in a food drive for Shalom House. Founded in 1968, Shalom House is a non-profit organization dedicated to serving women in need. Shalom House conducts a 24-hour Emergency Shelter Program, a 24-month Transitional Housing Program, and an Aftercare Program. By providing direct services to chronically homeless women with severe mental illness and chemical dependency, Shalom House is helping break many cycles that directly influence the well-being of the entire community. Shalom House is located at 1040 S. Taylor Avenue, St. Louis, MO (near Barnes Hospital). Shalom House has a very informative website if you would like more information on this organization. http://www.shalomhousestl.org/portal/
We are doubling our efforts because.....During March and April, Shalom House will be participating in the Feinstein Challenge. For the 14th consecutive year, the Feinstein Foundation is giving away $1M through the Feinstein Food Challenge from Tuesday, March 1 through Saturday, April 30. During this time, Shalom House will receive a proportional matching gift (from the Feinstein Challenge) for each and every cash gift, pledge, stock gift, and food item donated.
We are tripling our efforts by partnering with WISE (Ameren's Women Influencing Success in Energy) to help collect even more food and donations.

About Shalom House and its Food Pantry:
The Shalom House Food Pantry serves both the Shalom House Emergency Shelter and Transitional Housing programs. Shalom House serves approximately 2,335 meals each month to the Emergency Shelter alone. While a number of our meals are graciously donated by churches, organizations, and individuals, the Shalom House Food Pantry also provides many of these meals and supplements others. The Food Pantry also provides groceries to each of the twelve Transitional Housing residents on a weekly basis, which they utilize to cook their own meals throughout the week.
In addition, graduates of Shalom House are welcome to come back to the Food Pantry once per month to receive canned/ dry goods, bakery items, and fresh produce when available. The Food Pantry serves an average of fourteen people per month, including graduates and their family members.
We "CAN" collect for Shalom House!
