2009

All teams are NOT created equal. This team is made up of 200 plus students from the Small Beginnings School! We are excited to see how the children work for change in 2009!

Firms Involved:

Warm the Homeless

Benefiting: Hillcrest Ministries

Over the past month our kids have doing a drive held in the lobby of Small Beginnings. One of girls on the facilty created posters for all the parents coming in and out of the school to see what we were doing. Our donation table grew daily. In addition all 200 children all hand addressed / decorated letters to them selves for their parents to see and have an overview of what we're doing over the next 4 months.

The organization selected was Hillcrest Ministries, Women and Childrens Shelter, for homeless mothers and their children. Hillcrest is located in Independence, MO. Our focus was to collect blankets, bedding and soup for the families. Over the entire month the kids had signs posted in each of their classrooms, at the entrance and hallway reminding parents what they are doing to help other familes and help make their lives a little warmer. The teachers and staff approx 15 wore their Project Change KC t shirts weekly to school to help create awareness promote what we're doing.

We were very happy to be able to collect over 250 cans of soup and over 50 blankets and bedding for the mother's and kids at Hillcrest Ministries Womens Shelter. We delivered everything Sunday evening @ the home. We're letting all the families at Small Beginnings know what a huge success this was with all their help and support. The classroom with the most donations will have a cupcake and sticker party, which was Miss Chody's kids.

Feed the Hungry

Benefiting: Operation Breakthrough

The devoted directors, teachers and staff at Small Beginnings have included in their curriculum the importance of our social responsibility to help those who need our help and our enviornment. Especially children who have less than they do. With great pleasure, each day we watched our donation table grow and grow, bag by bag finally taking a big part of the corridor.

A letter was sent and posted for all classrooms outlining specific items needed. Our focus was to help create weekend grocery bags for the kids of Operation Breakthrough and stock their pantry. This is the food that helps get them tide them through the weekends to feed their families. We also wanted to provide items food stamps don't allow them to purchase. For example, household cleaning products, paper towels, toothpaste, shampoo, deodorant, toothbrushes, toilet paper and bath soap.

Once again, one of the teachers aids created a great posters we prominatley placed in the school helping create awareness. We wanted to remind our parents how much the children and families of Operation Breakthrough needed our help. All 13 classrooms and nearly 200 children participated in our month drive along with all the teachers and staff at Small Beginnings. The teachers and staff proudly wear their Project Change Tshirts each week to continue to foster goodwill and awareness among the children and families.

It was with great pleasure we were able to gather and deliver to Operation Breakthrough almost 1000 lbs of much needed food and esstentials for their pantry. We were greated with great enthusiasm by the staff and some of the kids who helped us stock their pantry.

For this months challenge each classroom at Small Beginnings was rewarded with cool new bouncy balls for their playground fun! This was a positive reinforcement and wonderful experience for all the kids at Small Beginnings. They all clearly know who Project Change is and the difference with their collective efforts they are helping to make for the kids in their own community.
