Generation Gap
Our team is made up of 8-10 moms and their children for a total of about 25 people. Our goal is to find opportunities in the community to help senior citizens by providing small services and emotional support. We will also be exploring other ways to assist the homeless and low-income families. We are excited to be a part of Project Change and look forward to many rewarding experiences.

Movie Night
Benefiting: Rose Estates
Team "Generation Gap" had fun in January hosting a movie night for Rose Estates, an assisted living community in Overland Park.
We enjoyed serving cookies and punch to 6-8 residents while we introduced ourselves and watched "Whale Rider". When the movie was over, the residents enjoyed discussing the movie with our team, especially the children. One woman in particular could have talked to the children all night. It seemed she didn't want us to leave. It was very fulfilling knowing we provided an evening of entertainment and socialization these people otherwise would not have enjoyed.
We look forward to future movie nights and closer relationships with our new friends.

Trash Pick-up!
Benefiting: Rose Estates
Team Generation Gap continued its service to the community this month with two events.
The first was our third movie night enjoyed by our team with residents of Rose Estates Assisted Living Center. We watched Princess Diaries and munched on cookies, brownies and punch. We all enjoyed just being together. Taking the time to visit was meaningful to everyone involved.
The second event we completed was a trash pick-up. What better way to make an immediate difference! We worked hard on the streets of Lake Lotawana picking up three bags of trash, a front headlight and a big bent pipe. "Who would just leave all this trash here???" That was a frequent question from a 6 year old learning to do her part. MANY valuable lessons were learned that day! We had a lot of fun and feel great driving by the stretch of road made more beautiful by our hard work.
We hope that our efforts this month have helped make somebody's world a better PLACE!

Backpack Snacks
Benefiting: Backpacks for Hunger
For our third project, Team Generation Gap paired up with Backpacks for Hunger to provide food to children. This is an organization that provides school-age children in need with backpacks of food for the weekend. They can pick up their backpack from school on Friday and must return it Monday for it to be filled for the next weekend. This program was started about a year ago and has seen major improvements in the students they serve. The students on this program have demonstrated improved school attendance, improved grades, decreased expulsions and an overall uplifted spirit! It's amazing what energy from food, responsibility for their backpack and a feeling that people care about them has done for these kids and their schools!
Generation Gap was proud to fill 700 backpacks for these kids! Backpacks for Hunger is a very well run organization that was prepared to put us right to work. We chipped in, had a great time and felt great about what we accomplished. And that is a beautiful THING!
