Project Change - Event One: People
Benefiting: Synergy Services &
Ronald McDonald House

When employees of Scott Rice Office Works & 360 Architecture were presented with their first Project Change challenge – to perform a community service event based around people…interacting, connecting, and helping those in need - they fell in love with the idea of reaching out to as many people as possible, but wanted to really, TRULY feel as though they’ve connected with them and touched the lives of many.

The idea of helping those in need is hard to beat…unless, of course, you take those people in need and HAVE THEM HELP OTHERS!!! That is EXACTLY what volunteers from Scott Rice Office Works & 360 Architecture did! They spent one fun-filled evening working with the youth at Synergy Services (a local shelter for runaway and homeless teens who focus on helping families with despite from violence) to create special treats for other people in need. Sixteen volunteers and their family members invaded Synergy Service’s space with all the supplies (and pizza) needed to help the teens decorate heart-shaped sugar cookies, make Valentine’s Day greeting cards and create fabulous treat-bags all while sharing stories from the past and their plans for the future!

The treat-bags created were taken to the local Kansas City Ronald McDonald house for families who are currently residing there and their children who are receiving care at Children’s Mercy Hospital. Each bag contained sugar cookies, a deck of band-aid shaped playing cards, a heart-shaped Valentine’s straw, and a special hand-made greeting card.

In the end, helping one small group of people connected many = Volunteers from Scott Rice & 360 to the youth at Synergy; Youth at Synergy to Residents at Ronald McDonald House; RMH to patients at Children’s Mercy! Mission accomplished!
